Deep-sea creatures have a low habitat temperature, so they can only be collected in winter when the surface water temperature of the seawater, which has the least impact, drops. “Zokuzoku Deep Sea Creatures 2022” will hold a bio-exhibition of deep sea creatures, backyard tours, etc. that can be done only in this season. You can observe the characteristics of the body of deep-sea creatures nearby and discover their charm.
Some deep-sea creatures that live at depths of 200 m or deeper, where only a small amount of light can reach, have unique characteristics that are different from those of shallow water. Each has survived, adapting to the harsh environment of dark, cold and high water pressure.
Those with a characteristic mouth structure, light and artificial bait, eye structure different from shallow creatures, those that protect themselves from water pressure with a watery body, predators to ensure prey on the prey they encounter A deep-sea creature with a hard body like armor to escape from, and a “counter illumination” that illuminates the abdomen and hides itself in the dark. The advantages and meanings of living in the deep sea will be explained in an easy-to-understand manner through the exhibition of living organisms, specimens, and models for each category.
The Sunshine Aquarium has given students lectures on marine environmental issues and has promoted collaborative programs such as environmental education and experiential learning. Introducing the problem of marine plastic waste, which has become more serious in recent years, in an original manga created by middle and high school students of the “younger generation” Shinagawa Joshi Gakuin. With the cooperation of Shinagawa Joshi Gakuin, we will also exhibit a video of deep-sea garbage taken with an underwater drone at the Sunshine Aquarium and garbage actually collected from the deep sea.
A paid backyard tour “Zokuzoku Deep Sea Tour” will be held every day during the session, where you can listen to the explanations of deep sea creatures directly and enjoy the deep sea creatures in the backyard, which can be enjoyed by deep sea fans and children.
A deep “deep sea talk (charged)” by breeding staff will be held on January 22nd and February 5th at the aquarium after closing. Because the number of people is limited, you can enjoy the aquarium slowly. The biological commentary exhibited at the Sunshine Aquarium has become the original trading card “Zokuzoku Deep Sea Card”. There are 7 types in all. Details such as the distribution method will be posted on the official website at a later date.
Deep sea goods and deep sea Japanese sweets in collaboration with the long-established Japanese sweets store “Miharado” will also be sold at “Shop Aqua Pocket”. The contents and schedule may change depending on the situation.
